Odalys Fontenot

Of counsel

Odalys practiced criminal law in New Orleans for years before she came to Memphis. Now she runs the firm's record-clearing work and its misdemeanor docket, and makes sure an old charge stops costing clients jobs.

Odalys handles expungements from start to finish, along with misdemeanor assault, theft and drug charges. She pulls a client's full record before the first meeting, because people often have a charge they've forgotten, and she meets clients in Spanish as easily as English.

How Odalys runs a case

Odalys starts with the record, from every court, and sends the client a list: what can be cleared now, what can be cleared later, and when.

She files the petitions, serves the prosecutor and handles the hearing if the court holds one. Most clients never have to come to court for an expungement.

When the order is signed, she sends it to the agencies that keep copies, so the charge comes off everywhere it should.
