Before you call
First questions, short answers
Short answers. Your lawyer will give you the long ones for your case.
01Should I talk to the police if they call me?
Not without a lawyer. You can be polite and still say you won't answer questions until you have one. That holds even if they say you're only a witness.
02How much will this cost?
It depends on the charge and on whether the case goes to trial. We quote the fee in writing after the first conversation, before you hire us, and say exactly what it covers.
03What happens at the first court date?
Usually not much: the charge is read, bond may be reviewed, and the case is set for another day. You have to be there, and so will your lawyer.
04Someone I love was just arrested. What do I do?
Call us with their full name, date of birth and where they were taken. We can find out the charge and the bond, and arrange to talk with them.
05Can you get my case dismissed?
Sometimes. No honest lawyer can promise it at the first meeting. We can tell you what would have to be true for a dismissal, and whether it looks that way.
06Do I have to go to trial?
No. Whether to plead or go to trial is your decision. Our job is to tell you plainly what each would likely mean.
07Do you take cases outside Memphis?
Yes, across Shelby County and the counties around it, and in the Mississippi and Arkansas courts where our lawyers are admitted.
08Can we meet somewhere other than the office?
Yes. At the jail, by video, or somewhere that works for you if you can't come downtown.
Not on the list? Ask us.
Ask it on the phone. The first conversation is how we find out whether we can help.
