Cyrus Pettigrew

Partner

Cyrus works on the part of a drug case most people never see: the stop, the search and the warrant. If the police broke the rules getting the evidence, his job is to keep it out of court.

Cyrus leads the firm's drug cases and writes most of its motions to suppress evidence. He reads warrants line by line against what officers actually searched, and he's practiced in Arkansas as well as Tennessee, which matters in a city where a short drive crosses the river.

How Cyrus runs a case

Cyrus asks for every record of the search: the warrant and the affidavit behind it, the officers' notes, the property log and the lab's chain of custody.

When a search looks wrong, he writes the motion and argues it at a hearing where the officers testify. Many drug cases are decided there, before any trial date.

For a first charge, he checks diversion early, so a client can weigh a dismissal at the end of a program against the risk of fighting the case.
